Having both an iMac G4 and a TiBook 800, I have seen noticable speed differences between the two.
Any disk intensive activity tends to be faster on the iMac which has a faster disk.
Any CPU bound processes tend to be faster on the TiBook which has the L3 cache.
There are any number of factors (some of which have been stated above) that can cause speed differences. And for a chart to be useful, these differences need to be listed as well.
For reference the TiBook is at 10.2 and the iMac at 10.1.5, I have a couple of pieces of software that broke on 10.2 and am awaiting updates for them before upgrading the iMac.

I like your style Nipsy and your points are well taken. I think that a lot of people are just venting.
Personally, I would find it extremely hard to believe that Apple wants to live and die by a Photoshop metric. On the other hand, Intel and AMD don't seem to be making bank on every speed increase either, which tells me that PC's are price constrained commodities for the most part.
Apple, on the other hand, is quite aware of the dollars that can be generated with a quick and substantial speed bump in January, especially as most of the bleeding edge types that have stuck their noses up at the 7455 machines.
I have a dual 500 with a hardware raid (ata66), and I can get a good speed bump by jumping to a 133 raid and 7200 RPM drives, should I need to stretch this a bit more. Then, of course, there are dual 800 and 1G upgrades, though I would need to see quite a price decrease to be interested in these.

Thanks... I was thinking that it would post when the first WU was complete, and I was right... I checked this morning and it looks like my first WU is a monster... 400 frames that are taking about 13 minutes each to complete on this P4 1.8ghz machine. So, I don't think I will be posting any points until later this week. I'm trying to get these OLD machines up and running work, but the problem I am having is actually a lack of network ports. I need to find an unused hub somewhere so I can get them all online. They are some pretty ancient computers, all the way down to PII's and some PIII's, so I would like to try and cluster them together to share work units.
The trouble is that they HAVE to be Windows (98) boxes, as they are technically spares that have to be ready to deploy to my coworkers if they need a replacement machine while I fix up their normal computer... Any suggestions?
N/M the above question... I looked at the machines and determined that the P2's were too slow to keep around (350mhz was the fastest), and just stuck with the 2 P3's (500mhz and 1ghz). Those two are fast enough to finish WU's within the deadline on their own, so they're up and running.
I have 4 P4 1.7ghz machines folding for the MR team now, at about 80% time or more, and the 2 p3's going at 100% 24/7. I don't think my first WU will go through for another couple days, but there should a bunch finishing all around then so hopefully it will make a decent contribution. I'd add my mini but the increase in CPU use causes the fan to spin up and I really like my computer to be as close to silent as possible. Alas, I have a bunch of Windows machines folding for the MR team, and not a single Mac!

Well I just wanted to know if the PS3's graphics is that much better than the PS2 that it's worth the extra $510. Perhaps I should create a poll in this thread.
Perhaps you should just decide which is best for you :) I own a PS3 and i love it, the games are great, the whole experience is awesome. I never owned a PS2, but after buying the PS3 i did purchase a couple PS2 games that i had wanted to play. Buying a PS3 will be more futureproof, but if you don't have the extra money to spend now then buying a PS2 is probably the better bet.

a notebook/subnotebook for under $1000 dollars wouldbe a great addition to the line up. So would an $899 emac entry level.

But that being said some of you list of software is kind of off. M$ already has a calandar like progrom out there.
Which is Outlook. And like apple's side it has email calandard and contacts all tied together in it. (And it even ties in to MSN Messager)

I think it only makes sense for Apple to introduce a wireless (BT) Mighty Mouse. Now that Boot Camp allows XP to run on Macs, there will be an increased demand from Windows users for true right-click functionality. Apple will want to address this in both their wired and wireless mouse offerings, as they will not want users having to resort to 3rd party solutions instead (even though many people, myself included, already do and will continue to do... )

I've never known the UK store go down and not the US one at the same for anything major. It hasn't been down that long, it could be a simple refresh a slight layot change. Lets hope it is something more.

Safari for the Mac amd Firefox for the Windows ... Sure I wouldn't mind a tad more functionality with Safari but it meets my needs. I can easily see how users favour Firefox over it, but to me Safari feels a bit more polished.

I just dont understand some people's perception of upgrading. Its so much more effecient overall to upgrade to the newer technologies. It shouldnt take anybody years to upgrade to OSX. AND, I wouldnt trust Quark's ability to output to PDF on a broke dead dog.
As for Quark 5, we used it. When I first started working here 2 and a half years ago, they were using Quark 4.1. I had never used a page layout app before and thats what they taught me on. I urged them to get Quark 5 (my ignorance on the application itself) and they got it. No different than 4.1 IMO. Then we got 6 later. But, shortly after learning Xpress, I heard about InDesign somewhere and d/l the trial. I really liked it and so I urged them to get it. We got that awesome Pagemaker --> InDesign upgrade and I havent looked back since. I create NOTHING new in Xpress. Only when I HAVE to due to older files, do I use Xpress.

Umm the activation was never really cracked. It was corparte edition people started using that dont have activation so it was by passed. To crack (more so by pass) the activation on a non corparate copy you have to really know what you are doing and that is when you have a guild on how to do it. I think I read some where that MS is going to have activation in all of it edition for longhorn because Pirate is so rampaned. Plus Pirate copy dont get service packs an only crictical secuirty updates. All the updates to remove bugs and to make the OS better they are not going ot be allowed to get
Activiction is not going to stop the hard core pirates but it will slow down to stop all but the hard core and it makes it a lot more trouble to pirate software.
If thier was no activation pircity would increase. I find the people who complain about it the most are the one that pirate the software. Ones that pay for it just find it slightly inconvent but no really problem with it.

Office 12 will be a simultaneous release for both PC and Mac. It's supposed to be the first release achieving feature parity between the Mac and Windows versions.
Currently Office:mac 2004 is, in my opinion, a superior version to Office 2003 for Windows.

I was told close to Christmas, but that was heard from someone who I have no idea whether had accurate information or not. I'm in the position to buy one right now too, but it is so frustrating to not even find a place that MENTIONS that there is such a thing as a planned Mac 9700.

But the iMacs are silver rather than white - and have a Chanel logo on the 'chin' rather than the Apple logo.
