    Can anybody remember the last time a PC company created such a buzz in the design world? Here it is, the 21st century, a time when many think monumentalism is dead. Guess again. In Midtown this week, Apple will unveil another modern design masterpiece with a new flagship store open 24/7 in the heart of tourism. The black coverings on the building are iconic of the company itself and echo the Ka'ba in Mecca.

    The brilliance in the design is its simplicity. A cube gives you perfect proportions and a seamless faade. By that, I mean, whatever side you are standing on, you get the same building. You cannot help but remember the building because its repeated on all sides.

    Further still is the resurrection of monumentalism. It stands as a testament to time. Like a pyramid, it is perfect. It invokes something deep within our biological coding. Kahn saw this, no, felt this and used it. Simple geometry is beautiful in itself, and if used correctly within context, creates complex lighting and emotional energy.

    Midtown is an excellent location. It's not hidden in another setting were it would blend into the wallpaper of trendy design like SoHo. Nor is it hidden in the diverse night activity of Time Square. It stands erected here. It feels permenent. It cannot be ignored. People from the NYC area will use it. Tourist will have to stop in. Critics will squabble over it. Foreigners will marvel at it. Us in the design field HAVE noticed it. The rest will HEAR about it.

    The 21st century is about good design. It can be done cheaply and it can enhance lives. IKEA has the mantra, so should Apple. Good design is everywhere nowadays. As simple as this building may look, it is far more complex. Again I repeat: When was the last time another computer manufaturer/software maker, created such a stir in the design community like this?

    So how will they work.. wil you buy it and then you will have to connect to the internet and Adobe will check your system and the you will enter a code :confused: :confused:

    If it's anything like Quark's activation, once online you select 'Activate Product' from a menu and it takes about 10-20 seconds to connect and fetch a code from Quark... you never see the code.

    However, those Macs not connected to the web need to be telephone activated and this does involve the use of codes, but as I've never had to do this myself I can't shed any more light on it.

    Here's the info from the horse's mouth.

    TheRegister has an interesting article (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/04/20/portalplayer_loses_flash_ipod_deal/) about the future of iPod and the chips it uses..

    Probably most logical steps, but may be a confirmation as well..

    So the latest news that we are hearing is the the powerbooks will top out at 1 Ghz.

    and that the ibook update (if there is one) will be a 13" 800 mhz powerpc G3.

    does anyone else find this disappointing.

    i mean im all for new powerbooks and upgrades of older systems,

    but a measly 200 Mhz speed bump in a laptop that is more than a year old.

    i just find this disappointing.

    I mean apple has now come out with a pretty revolutionary software system that takes advantage of powerful processors to help run your power intensive applications, but without the power behind it what good is it?

    all this in a laptop that will still probably top out at what $3500?

    i mean i just feel that with the lagging speeds of the G4 it will be harder and harder to compete with X86 units when they at least double in the same amount of time.

    add in the fact that we probably won't even see the "G5" until what 9 months at the very very earliest?

    okay im just ranting now, but thoughts?

    Yes it will work with a 4x, 6x, or 8x AGP. Also from what I've seen at least with this card and the other current ones there will be no speed benefits to 6x or 8x AGP because they don't use that much bandwith.

    MacCoaster, wouldn't it be more accurate to use clock() instead of time()? Here's with that change:

    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <time.h>
    #include <math.h>

    int main()
    {

    I would love to work at an Apple Store, but that contract would bug me, as I know someone who worked at a store and left a bunch of forums. Kinda sucked. :(

    I have friends who work at Apple Stores, they say it's cool at first, but not all it's cracked up to be.

    Haha... I make that mistake occasionally.

    Solid blank shirts = employee in my mind.That's right! I remember selling you two 30" Cinema Displays when you mistook me for an Apple employee. You believed me about the 100% rebate offer after 30 days, but it was too late by then! :D

    My Apple-looking T-shirt also let me sneak into the employee-only area, where I saw how they sit around watching the feeds from the iSights in the customer area and laughing as people make funny faces into the lenses. ;)

    I was walking past the Chanel shop in South Kensington last night and spotted that they've got two iMacs in their window showing various Chanel slidewhows

    But the iMacs are silver rather than white - and have a Chanel logo on the 'chin' rather than the Apple logo. I'm assuming that they may have been colour-wared or just professionally sprayed since they look like the silver is 'supposed' to be there.

    I'll try to get a picture when I next pass that way - but has anyone else spotted them in any other Chanel store?

    The G4 has been sent packing....

    Motorola is pleased to announce the transfer of final test of the MPC744x and MPC745x (Vger and Apollo product lines) from Motorola BAT-1 Austin, Texas to Motorola Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (KLM). All test, burn in, and inspection process flows and equipment will remain the same. The transfer to KLM is a factory consolidation as a result of the closure of the BAT1 factory. Vger product lines will begin test in KLM in June of 2002. Apollo product lines will begin test in KLM in July 2002.

    Proof: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&safe=off&q=Motorola+Kuala+Lumpur+MPC745x

    Did they send the G4 packing because Apple is going IBM? Discuss, speculate, fight and bicker as needed. :D

    Indeed, and a fairly naff one at that. Home build 1.4GHz Athlon (original), Server 2003 Enterprise. Haven't rebooted it in a LONG time, and it's a local DNS/DHCP/Print/File/Active Directory server :eek:

    I don't understand why Mac folks don't think recent copies of Windows aren't stable.
    Maybe it's the same reason PC guys think Macs are still running OS 8

    I am usually pretty reticent when it comes to '3D desktops', but this seems very cool for pen-based devices...(it might actually be more practical to take some of these concepts and incorporate them into a 'traditional' desktop environment).There are several threads about this already. Here are two of them:

    i have heard rumors of the g4s being put to a possible alpha hardware stage in apple from a meta developer freind of mine
    as a side to the new power macs to come out next year

    maybe .... maybe .....

    . . .Apple bought out El Gato Software, which makes EyeTV? This would be another entertainment acquisition for Apple and would allow Apple to extend the digital hub to the television and VCR. Apple could make their own "iTV" software for Mac OS X to be used in conjunction with the EyeTV TV tuner or an actual television. They could add RF and RCA inputs to the back of new computer systems that would allow to hook up your TV, VCR, and even a cable box to your Mac; you could also hook up the EyeTV TV tuner to your Mac through USB. You could then do everything that EyeTV can do and possibly more.

    Would this actually work? What might be the advantages and disadvantages? Do you think it's a great idea?!?! :) :D :cool: :rolleyes:

    EDIT: BTW, this is not a "What would the world be like. . ." thread. It is a thread about Apple and EyeTV. Don't be a "fool" like 'mymemory' was below! :eek:
