Are you serious or joking? In any case, the computers are doing all the work, it's not a waste of my time! I'm not running SETI now, but I've had this dual G5 sitting around, seems like I should put it to work. I do agree though, the time is probably better spent with something closer to home and more immediately useful, like protein folding.
I have chosen to be a part of the folding effort as opposed to the SETI effort. One has to chose which effort they feel has the most benefit.

Okay, for sake of argument lets say this actually happens. Moto releases what will be known as a G5 and Apple puts it in the iMacs, eMacs and iBooks. So since the 1.25s are going to be shipping soon, (way before January) then the iMac will have a G5 of say 1ghz and the Powermac will have a dual G4. Now what looks more powerful on paper, a G4 or a G5? Here's what I predict:
In January, Apple releases new hardware. The Powermac line gets converted to G5 while the 'i' line gets a speed bump. They will recieve a low-heat-and-power Moto G5 or maybe a further derivative of the IBM Power4 in the summer.:)

Yet the idea of residential t1 lines seems to be a couple years off (maybe less?).... why do we need such for the meager DSL/CABLE?
Bandwidth, Smandwidth. The mail has more bandwidth than any other technology, especially with 200GB disks. One 200GB disk is like, I dunno, a year's worth of new porn in H.264/MPEG4 format with reasonable quality (OK, maybe just a month or two). Fitting an entire season worth of TV on one would be child's play, and fitting 100 episodes on a disk is not out of the question. You could just send people an entire archive worth of material, and grant them access using keys sent over the net. Granted it's not for the freshest of material, but it will suit a lot of purposes. At the consumer level the only really large files people have to deal with these days are video, games, and other multimedia.
BTW, I also think FMDs and especially FMCs from www.c-3D.net sounded very promising, but I can't even reach their website anymore. Having worked with flourescent substances before, I know that like all pigments they have a tendency to bleach over time - I suspect that might have proven to be an insurmountable problem. But I don't know.

Are you interested in taking over the project? There is a position available! :D
wow, I don't know what to say, I mean I want to, but I'm sure you hear a lot that I'm very busy until early December when classes end. I might take a look at it tonight though to see if it's more than I can chew (it probably is :p )

Perhaps, if the project supported more than Windows machines, it would be possible to help.
It appears that the software behind it does work on Mac OS X, though. Maybe they just need to update the information on their FAQ page.

Though ironcally, the iMac in the foreground has a Windows-related page open!
The image is from the Getty Images library and was intended for a story about Boot Camp, so the Windows page was sort of relevant for that purpose - the BBC just decided to reuse it for some reason.

Another one I noticed recently was an article about the Carphone Warehouse's broadband (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4898212.stm) - although to be fair they did use PC laptops for other articles about the same story, but obviously we don't notice those quite as much ;)

thanks to the OP and the ppl who are giving suggestions, I beleve that something will happen, the police will catch them. if not for the OP loosing their 360, everything these brats stole would never return to the original owners. All it needs is time and a bit of luck, like the connecting to the OP's network, how silly of them to access something from the scene of the crime! ;)

The chip averages around 100-150 points a day, by Dreadnought's quotes in other threads. The G5's are only single processor, however there are some that contain two processors not dual core though. The 1.8ghz are not in the new line.
I hope your gonna switch to our team, 3446 ;) Especially if you have an Apple.

I seriously didn't think this would happen by 2010. Wow.
Haha seriously! I thought Dell would just stay with Intel all the way through. But then again, they're sales have been VERY bad the past year, and there have always been rumors about Dell jumping onto the AMD bandwagon.
This should be very interesting though. I love BOTH AMD and Intel. Looks like the competition is about to heat up soon! I think Apple will kick everyone's butts once they have Conroe and Merom in their computers!

Imagine.....clearly a key-word in all of this. Most people seem to believe 19" is ideal and don't forget (theorically) that similar to a 21-23" CRT monitor anyway. To go much bigger is just making things too expensive and also a bit on the large side.
Dual P5's??????? And possiblilties??????
I think of what I can do on my 500Mhz TiBook and I can't see that I NEED much more power. It's the same with my PC (600Mhz and quite happily running a database server, webserver and all my development tools). It's fun to wish, hell everyone does it but you should be happy with what you have!!!

Process 2 on my G4 is having the same issue
It is getting a 404 error on that process, and it won't turn in my previous work unit. All IP and internet connectivity is doing well. I will see if Process 1 runs into the same problem when it is completed.

Hmmm... pretty small chips there - good thing it's an April Fools Joke, or iBM and iNtel would be out of business as of April.
But I definitely love the idea of dual processors in PowerBooks... GO APPLE shoehorn team!!!

I'm in New Hampshire and use Gamefly, it takes about 5 days for me to get a game and about 1-2 days for them to get notice from USPS that I returned a game, they use a scanning feature that allows them to have USPS send them details and ship a game to you before they physically receive it.
Probably the best thing I like about Gamefly is the rewards program they have, every 3 months you get 5 Gamefly bucks and on top of that you get either a 5% or 10% (off their keep it price) discount depending how long you've been a member. I just went over a year and get 10% off so when I rent and want to keep it I'm getting about $15-$20 off a new release (I can keep GR:AW2 for $43.19 or Crackdown for $40.49, not bad for 2 recently released games that are MSRP $59.99).

Perhaps its just me, but http://macslash.org/ seems to be posting news less and less frequently. For a site that I used to read daily its almost turned into a maybe bi weekly hit for me. Sad when it proclaims itself a "Daily Dose of Mac News and Discussion". Its too bad because I really enjoyed reading news there.

The only real benefit the G4 has over the PPC970 is the L3 cache. The PPC970 really doesn't need it half as much though.
