If I didn't own a 360 and was eyeballing this one, I would seriously consider the 20g Ps3 at $20 more. And I'm not saying that simply because I've already got a 360 and this announcement pisses me off; I say it because a Ps3 for $20 more to include the BluRay is worth the extra $20 over this 360.
Well there wont be any more 20gb PS3's once stores have got rid of stock so it will be $120 difference - but then your getting wifi too.

lol, at my school when ever I come across a computer, I download Firefox and replace the Firefox icon with IE's icon, and rename it Internet Explorer. Most of the kids and teachers don't know the difference and keeps us tech people happy. :D

You guys are such nerds  . I've been working at an apple store since this past september. All of the the employees (including managment) check out macrumors and other apple related sights , somestimes during work breaks and such.
Yeah my friend works at the Apple store and reads these sites too. She says she posts as well she just doesnt identify herself as an apple employee.

How could those PS3 have such high numbers. They only have 3.2 Ghz Cell processor in them. 3.2 is pretty fast, but it is a Cell proc. Did someone forget to divide it through a 1000?!?

sharp sells a 30" hdtv. if you could hook the machine up to something like that, and have it broadcast at the right resolution, it may look okay. lets hope that if this does happen, it's not a plasma. they're cool, but the picture really sucks as if many of the people here hasn't seen one in an electronics store, or anything :) )

I got the following news item by a quick search in Google.
"Although Microsoft presents NT as a homegrown OS, NT is actually much older than its official 1993 birthdate. NT contains architectural and design influences from another company's flagship OS. Interestingly, throughout the 1990s, Digital introduced many NT features to VMS, and Microsoft has added VMS developments to NT. For example, VMS featured native clustering support in 1984, and 64-bit memory and system APIs in 1996. Microsoft did not introduce clustering support to NT until late last year_and only on a limited scale_and several years might pass before Microsoft releases 64-bit NT."
Interesting..

Ok, I decided to take the plunge. I mean, I already had the game and I figured it was about time I used it. I had no idea how long it would take to install the game. Then I had to install a myriad of updates and the first three of them were each about 500MB. Anyway, 6 hours later I was able to create my first character.
The intent of this post was not to describe my experience but rather to pose a question. With the assumption that I would like to play alone as much as possible, is there a race and class combination that would suit me best? Also, are there certain professions or talents that would be best to concentrate on? I am not very familiar with professions or talents as I only dabbled in the game a bit last night. I want to avoid getting 40 hours into the game and realizing that I have picked a race and class that are heavily dependent on others.
On a dissimilar note, the controls were quite awkward at first but after 30 minutes I found them to be quite ingenious. Leave it to Blizzard I guess.

There's an interesting piece in the Sunday Times (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspaper/0,,176-2157704,00.html) about the proposal. The writer (Bryan Appleyard) points out that one of the justifications for the licence fee is the "market failure" theory - the BBC with a guaranteed revenue stream should be making programmes that the commercial sector would find economically unviable. Those programmes that are made by both public and private broadcasters eg. game shows, news, current affairs etc. should be of a higher standard at the BBC than commercially made ones. The fact that they aren't necessarily doing so is an area of concern.
It will be part of an extra £5.5 billion spening over the next 10 years and, to fund it, the BBC wants the licence fee raised, year by year, from its present level of £131.50 to more than £180 by 2013. Tessa Jowell, the culture secretary, has signalled that this is seen as no more than “an opening bid”. But the BBC has already sweet-talked her into giving away an even bigger prize. She has guaranteed the licence fee itself will continue for the next 10 years.

“They played her beautifully, like a trout,” said one embittered ITV executive.
My highlighting. I laughed good and hard at that one - it makes you wonder what goes through the minds of people at ITV :D

in a few minutes, less than twenty to be exact, i will celebrate my 4th year here
and i am 40 years old
oh my god, i have been a member here for one tenth of my life!!
but then again, there could be a user here who has three years in here and is only 12 years old (younger kids need parental permission i think) and that would be a quarter of their life

A short, random quiz for all the old skoolers here. Feel free to add your questions.
Oh, and if you know the answer, don't post it.
We don't want to ruin it for the newer members; use PMs instead. :)
1. What was Durandal7's original user name?
2. What does "QC" stand for?
3. What was jefhatfield's original user name?
4. How many original forums were there?
5. Who is the other admin of Macrumors?

Yeah, not really interested in cooking, or a cooking game.
However, Wii Sports didn't do much better in ratings, and I thought it was great fun. Maybe the game will work for the right crowd?
If the lower score is mainly due to bad implementation of controls, well, then that just sucks. :)

If you want apple quality, you're going to pay for it... a price drop would be good, but i should never hope to see them *cheaper* than others...
you could always grab a 15", and then a couple of months later go for another one... depends on what you do with your desktop space tho...
and that's assuming there will *be* a 15" in a few months ;)

I have a question for all of you World of Warcraft players.
When I play games, I don't like to have to interact with other players. I don't like to wait for games to start online. I don't like to be schooled by people who spend exponentially more time playing than I do. I like to play for whatever chunks of time I have and that's it. If I have 30 minutes to play, I want to spend it playing and enjoying myself. I don't want to spend 20 minutes waiting to get a group together.
With all this in mind, could I still play and enjoy World of Warcraft?
You play the same as I do.
I found I did fine initially with WoW and enjoyed the first few hours leveling up and exploring the immediate vicinity.
HOWEVER... once your up to maybe level 15-20 + the only way to really progress in the game is to join a guild and then all that commitment crap kicks in and your in a gaming place you simply dont want to be in.
Not worth the effort imho unless your really willing to sit down to 2-4 hour gaming sessions with people constantly telling you what do, where to go, what your doing wrong....
If I want to be nannied, i'll hire a feckin nanny. I just want to enjoy the game on my own and at €15 a month I should be able to.... but thats not what wow is about and it requires way too much.. wayyyy toooo much...

1700 points per WU!!! That's more then my weekly production! And I have two C2D and a G5 folding. Not 24/7, but still... It has taken me 5 years to get to the 170.000 points and over 2000 WU to achieve that. That makes you think, 2000 WU X 1700 points = 3.400.000 points! That's about 20 times as high. Those PS3 are seriously kicking some @#$*!!
There were only two or three simulations worth 1700 points and they're not PS3 WUs. A C2D can handle one of the big mothers in a little over a day. The PS3 is currenlty chomping on some ~300 pt WUs that take between 6-8 hours to wrap up.

I'm a bit confused. Would this enable me to access my email inbox in a browser that is being served by OS X Server, so i could access it like gmail instead of just Thunderbird or Mail?
Edit: Let me rephrase that, because it doesn't make much sense. I have OS X Server set up as a web and mail server. I can access my email with Mail and Thunderbird. Could I install RoundCube and access my email with a web browser like you can with GMail or Yahoo?
Looks good, btw.
Yup, that's what it's for. A more popular use would be web hosts using it as a web mail option for their clients.

The iPods are on sale at the computer store at the university where I work. I just ordered a 10 GB iPod for $319. The 5 GB is $219 and the 20GB is $419. This is an awesome deal. Check to see if you local universities have the same deal and make friends with a student or staff member. ;-)
