Or maybe it was because he rides a Harley, packs a .45 handgun, and loves beer. :D
i knew about the Harley, but a .45? well, you Americans and your guns.... if he came to Aus riding a Harley and carrying a .45 i'd be scared and probably wouldn't like him either. :p
and come to think of it i do remember that there were quite alot of people annoying Alphatech... oh well that's a shame he left. i dont' know about you guys but i'd be stoked if he came back. :D
and job, new 'tar? or i should say a 'tar. nice.

do you need a panasonic toughbook with waterproof keyboard in case you projectile vomit on it?
...and stay away from sharp objects like medieval long swords lest they cut off your limbs?
i wonder where dukestreet, krossfyter, and rower_cpu are?
i know at least two of them are big MP fans...they took over...i mean hijacked, a few threads in the past with monty python talk

I think things should get more exciting later in the year - Intel PowerMacs (hopefully they are more than just a chip change and are an awesome, significant upgrade), true video iPods, a Mac mini DVR type of home media center, and hopefully a couple surprises.
Still plenty of 2006 left for Apple to wow us... ;)

So will no brave MR member step forward to help lend some CPU cycles to my SETI quest!? Remember, I am a member of the MR team on SETI as well (#6 in RAC, #46 overall), so you'd be helping there, too!
yeah... about that... I've got a g3.. Can't help ya... Unless you want to hook me up with a blackbook 2ghz,2gb,160gb & FCE.... THEN i could help ya! :D

Was something supposed to happen by now? So much for April 1st...
I bet all we're going to see on the 1st is a press release...
"Apple turns 30"
that's it.

Read this original article I posted: http://arstechnica.com/wankerdesk/3q02/powerpc.html. Especially note this:
One of the most important and least-discussed features of the PowerPC 970 is its 900MHz DDR frontside bus. This bus physically runs at 450MHz, but it's double-pumped. Its architecture is interesting in that the bus actually consists of two, 32-bit unidirectional point-to-point links.

I use 6 (4 are mine) computers at home and many, many different ones at work. Altogether we have 7 computers (at last count) sitting around in my families house! Primarily (95% of the time) I use my Power Mac G5. At work I use about ~16 computers (All Dells  ).

I guess I should have searched first, but it didn't occur to me that anyone else would have proposed something this otw. :o
Maybe when I actually get my backwards compatible Xbox 360 and PS3, I'll be more willing to throw caution to the wind and give this a go. For now, I'll leave it for braver folk than I.

Wouldn't you be KICKING yourself, though, if an 800MHz Ti was released the next week for the 667's price? That, to me, is definitely worth the wait. We know they're due any time now... why give in when they're so close?

Could the sudden price reductions and Phil's name on the press releases mean that there is trouble brewing at apple? Will SJ announce his resignation next week? (lol, i think that might be a bit far-fetched

That said, it would take a hypothetical 64-bit wide 800mhz DIMM of RAM to make a "perfect" match for the 900mhz PPC-970 FSB (keeping in mind the overhead of the FSB). Two channels of 64-bit 400mhz RAM would also work. This is because the are two FSB channels, each 32-bits wide, running at 900mhz for the PPC-970.
Put a 900MHz DDR RAM chip in a 450MHz slot. What clock will it run at? 450MHz. That's what I'm talking about.
Yes effective clock speeds certainly counts, but I was writing about *USING* an actual chip that runs at 900MHz when the maximum the bus can do is [edit, sorry, typo] dual pumped 450MHz [effectively 900MHz] per channel. Yes, combined, they do 900MHz, but that's not what I'm talking about.
