Hi All,
I am puzzled by the news that Steve Jobs chose the Apple logo because he liked the Beatles and their philosophy (as widely reported today in European press).
I was always led to believe that the Apple logo (with a bite taken out of it) was chosen in memory of Alan Turing (creator of the first electronic computer at Bletchley Park during WW2) - who commited suicide by taking a bite from an apple laced with cyanide - after being threatened with jail for being gay. I saw a program on TV about Apple many years ago that gave this story of how the company logo came about. Surely Apple would be advised to use this version of events in court rather than saying it was Steve Job's liking of Beatles music - which might only make Apple Corps (beatles) position stronger!!

I'm sure they will patch / fix the vunerability quickly - if they havent already done so.
I wish someone will steal my account and add some more achivement points out of pity for my score.... :D
Actually I'm not delighted. I never really cared about online anything. 99.9% of the gaming I do is single player. I just kinda had a desire to play VT online. :P
I may get a 360 for Trusty Bell, so I'd like to know I'd be safe if I chose to use xbl. I probably won't, though.

The reason why I insisted that they give the iMac, iBook, and eMac a G5 first is because I think it would be stupid if they gave the PowerMac, PowerBook, and XServe a G5 first and then had to replace it with a 64-bit G5 just a couple months later!

'd have to agree; the real tip-off is the space between "Power" and "Book"... (i.e. it reads "Power Book" not "PowerBook" as it should). Great piece of wishful thinking, though...

I for one think the current lines of macs are MUCH slower than the current comparable PCs. And to Back to the Mac, you may have heard of piplines and branches etc.. but do you have any idea what you are talking about?
"25 years old arch... the x86 sucks" Well you enjoy OS X and that's 25+ architecture also, so whats your point? Also, I think it is very hard to compare a Dual 1.25 to a single 2 Gig processor. Especially when the price difference is 500-1000+ I mean I would pay for performance, but the Macs are more than that. I am on a 1.6Athlon at school right now and it kicks the **** out of my 933. This 1.6 has 512 Ram I have 1.28GIGS. Simple things like starting Explorer to read macrumors is executed with NO DELAY. Bringing up Control Panels is also instantanious. I dont mind the fact my G-4 is slower, I enjoy OSX and my mac, but as far as speed I think you BACKTOTHEMAC needs to open your eyes.

No....you did no such thing, and no offense was taken. I didn't join this thread till the last post. I only used Hitler as an example becasue it rang true of the same kind of "head in the sand" attitude we in the Mac community take at times.

So I got an XBox 360 and now want to take advantage of the media capabilities. I was thinking about replacing my hi-def DirecTivo with a Media Center PC but would love to have something from the Mac side.

I mainly post in the Collectors thread because that is my passion (and because there's no Fanaticism thread.) I remember City of Glass getting kicked off (or leaving?) after fighting with a number of people.
These days it seems like there are lot of new people, and still some older folks, and they tend to mix. I am also surprised at the number of new people coming, and the amount of time it takes to get 500 posts; it took my almost 2 years :eek:
The people here are for the most part friendly though, (a hell of a lot better than Apple Fritter- I don't even waste my time there anymore.) Since I've been here so long, and have so many posts, I'm kind of too lazy to register anywhere else.

hmmmm... when i saw them in CompUSA the other day, they were chrometastically shiny, but the front page of apple has always had the same picture, it's just that it would look slightly odd if there was some photographer in the reflections of the brand new powermac on the main page.
