^^ It may be an illusion but are your rear tires smaller than the front ones? Anyways, you have an awesome car. Looks very nice.

Those were the old tires that came with the wheels, I never used them as they were ********. I'm running 225/45/17 Continental ExtremeContact DW. Only have about 50 miles on them and I love them.

Here's the tread on them. They look narrow in the photo, but I assure you they are not.

And I can't forget about this minor issue. :P

I put some 268 cams and intake, exhaust. It's pretty quick now.

I say no thanks. Optical storage is way too slow! Why should I pay $1000 to get a 33GB disc that is slow on accessing when I can spend WAY LESS and use another harddrive thats 300GB+ and rewritable, or buy a 100 pack of DVD-R's for $10? I for one dont see this HD-DVD / Bluray thing getting big anytime soon, and Im sure as hell not going to rebuy my DVD collection, higher res or no higher res, I mean hell... I dont even have an HD TV yet,too damn expensive!

Apple - wait on this one please. Just put superdrives in everything and leave the combo drive in the past.

Yeah! Since this guy doesn't want it, neither do the rest of us!

There are more details here - http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/060719/sfw089.html?.v=60

At the end of the page is a breakdown in the sales figures.

Desktop sales are down 14% on last quarter, and 23% on a year ago, but laptop sales are up a whopping 60% on last quarter and 61% on a year ago.

Well I really can't judge it until I'm actually able to touch and use it myself, but from the looks, they've gone consumer. *here's hoping for the best* I really want it to work... but Adobe is looking better by the day.

They've gone consumer because the UI is something modern and not something ripped out of the 90's like the last Final Cut was?

Windows and Amazon are not a generic names. If Microsoft would have named it "Operating System" then that would be generic. If Amazon were named "Online Store" then that would be generic. I'm sure Amazon could have named App Store something else, but then again, it's such a known term now that instantly helps customers identify what they are looking at.

I like Apple products, but they're beginning to be one of the most anal companies out there.

Actually windows is generic - a windows OS is an operating system with a GUI that uses a desktop and windows (such as finder, word processors etc) developed by XEROX and first mass produced for the Apple Lisa. The generic term for that type of OS among others was windows OS - then Microsoft came out with a windowing OS and called it Windows and trademarked it. Microsoft is actually arguing against Apple exactly what they did years ago. Back on topic though - it doesn't matter - Amazon is using it while Apple has already filed for the mark. The courts will settle this and if it goes to Apple, Amazon will pay big and have to change their name. Would have been simpler to just change their name to begin with.

…or hold down the "Option" key and click away…

    I've been using this - AppCleaner (http://www.freemacsoft.net/)

    Better one, CleanMyMac (http://macpaw.com/)

Manage Plugins/Extensions, intelligent uninstaller, automatic device cleanup, cache cleaner, logs cleaner, language cleaner, remove unneeded binary files (PowerPC code mostly, shrinks app sizes and improves launch time), searches and removes leftover files from removed apps not cleaned by CleanMyMac, quick erase, clean out app system junk to improve performance, empty trash from app's that have self-contained trash bins (such as iPhoto), and a lot more. Great app (god I sound like a commercial! lol)

One step closer to a MBA refresh.

Seriously?! How long have you been waiting? Since last refresh?

Please...Please...Please...provide a pro graphics card option (FirePro or Quadro)

Keep dreaming. They couldn't even get a Radeon HD 5770, let alone a 5850. The best that could be done was a 5750 in the 27", and while it's not a terrible GPU, it's certainly nowhere near pro-level.

Not expecting a huge update here other than Sandy Bridge, Thunderbolt, and 6XXX series AMD graphics.

Lulz to that. It's not like those things weren't key to the Early 2011 MacBook Pros being as critically acclaimed as they are now.

Does this mean a Mini update is right behind it?

No. While Mac mini updates could be right around the corner, the two are on different release timelines and aren't always released at the same time. Essentially, it's irrelevant.

    6950 6950 6950 6950 6950 6950 6950 6950 6950!

For heavens sake give it a nice GPU!!!!!!!!

If the 5750 was the best that we got on the highest end model of current, then I'd be shocked if we got anything past 6770. We're definitely not getting cards that use up as much power as the iMac itself or require a second six-pin connector in the Desktop PCIe equivalent.

So, is this the fast iMac refresh in years?

Since July 2010; not even a full year really.

You misunderstood me friend...I meant an HD 6950 2GB (Desktop Card)

    Yes, its a pipe dream...but cant a man dream:rolleyes:

Sure, but that doesn't mean it'll ever happen.

Ah yes, well a desktop card would be nice. And the 27" does have the room when compared to the 21". They could engineer it in there if they wanted to.

But yes, I share your dream.

How many of those machines have you seen naked? As in, without the glass or panel with bare innards in full view? My guess is not very many. They don't have the room to engineer a better video card in the 27". It's almost a wonder they even have the room for something like the Radeon HD 5750 in what they have now. It's not like they took the design of the 21.5", gave it a larger chasis and screen and suddenly had more room to play with. Even so, as it stands, both sizes of iMac get extraordinarily hot. Sure, the 5750 in the Mid-2010 27" model draws less heat than the 4850 in the Late-2009 27" model, but that difference is negligible and even with a 6 series GPU's improvement, I doubt the difference will be substantial enough to warrant THAT much more power relative to the 6 series' lineup.

So, no, they couldn't engineer THAT much better of a card if they wanted. Not without making the iMac thicker than it already is. But it's Apple, they never do.

BINGO - as i said in a previous post.

Santa rosa is the one to hang out for. core2duo merom is the equivalent of an "Apple Speed Bump next tuesday".

Nothing to cream over. Nothing to hold off for  :p

    aussie_geek

Me thinks thou doest protest too much! Don't worry, your Yonah MBP will still be OK!

Merom is an "evolutionary," not "revolutionary" upgrade for MBPs. Santa Rosa will also be "evolutionary." A little faster FSB, NAND technology, 802.11N ... all nice items, but not fantastic. A nice upgrade, but unless accompanied by a major case design, also "nothing to cream over" for most buyers.

    :p

Why exactly is fixed pricing so important? isn't that.. well.. a bit anti supply/demand? Anyone have any stats on the percentages that bestbuy, a local music/video store, and apple are making on a normal purchase? You are correct that "market pricing", where the price of a movie is based on what that particular movie might be worth to people, and possibly on the relative cost of bringing it to you, would better follow the principles of supply and demand.

The other side of the story is that Apple wants to keep things as simple as possible, and fixed pricing is very easy for consumers to understand. It changes a tricky buying decision (is this movie worth this price?) to a simpler buying decision (which movies are worth the standard price?). It may not seem that complicated either way, but it makes a difference with skittish first timer buyers. It's like not having to haggle when the price of something isn't negotiable. Less flexibility, but less decisionmaking.

Among the general public, there has been a much larger resistance to these download services than you'd know from reading posts from tech-minded people in forums like these. I think fixed pricing for iTunes music was one of the keys to the success of the iTunes Music Store. Remember that only a small percentage of music buyers buy online, and movies are going to start out the same way.

But then, I don't believe that's what many really believe when they say it... instead, I get the vibe that what they mean to say is 'why can't you just closet yourself and act straight?'.

I do think some people genuinely believe it's a choice. It's hard for some people to imagine that not everyone's minds work the same as theirs, and not just related to homosexuality. Chances are, someone who considers homosexuality a choice likely has issues with other groups of people as well.

Well, I ended up having to build a small time machine to find out what would be announced. Wasn't difficult, except that Objective C is a PITA. Anyway, here's the log cut and pasted from engadget.com

(Note, order of lines is in chronological order, for obvious reasons)

8.55am Hall is close to full. Lot of excited murmmering, lights still on. REM tracks playing, audience is mostly annoyed.

    9.01 "Losing my religion"

9.03 lights dim, Jobs takes to the stage

9.05 Welcome everyone, great year for Apple, iPod Hifi, Intel switch

9.10 More on the way, better products, great year ahead for Apple

9.25 30 Years of Apple, 30 great more years. Achievements include Apple I, Apple II, Apple IIe, (listing each product)

9.45 Time to talk about what's next. May have heard a rumour about a phone. (Audience laughter)

9.47 iPod Phone. It's a headset. Plugs into iPod. Excellent sound quality.

9.50 Also handsfree kit for a cellphone. Bluetooth or 2.5mm jack.

9.55 Just to re-interate, as people on IRC feed seem to think otherwise, iPod Phone is a handsfree kit. So you don't have to take off your headphones when answering phone. It's not a cellphone. Audience seems troubled by this.

9.57 Integrates with iChat Video too, using Bluetooth feature. Now having chat with Bill Gates over iChat.

9.58 Range: 10-20 feet (extension cables available, for wired connections). "Works with all carriers"

10.05 "So that's iPod Phone", $299 for basic version (iPod nano), $499 for version for iPod. Now, iTV.

    10.10 New name "iMac mini"

10.12 Comes with keyboard and mouse. Wireless available.

10.15 View content downloaded from iTunes. Simple configuration to see shared music libraries.

    10.17 Still demonstrating configuration options.

10.25 Several Apple engineers are now on stage showing Steve how to point the iMac mini at Phil's iTunes library.

10.28 Music is now being downloaded. Shared content is automatically downloaded into local storage to avoid network stutters. iMac mini is not available for use during download. Entire library is downloaded each time.

10.30 "On to the next thing", 3% of library downloaded. "Leopard". "This one changes its spots"

    10.35 Significant changes underneath.

10.40 My. Word. Steve Jobs has just demonstrated the superiority of ZFS over other file systems. You have to see that to be believed. Take a look at the stream when it's posted. I mean, it was unreal. I've never seen such a clear technical explanation that was so obvious and compelling about a file system before.

10.45 Clapping abates for a few seconds, but then continues.

10.47 Apple employees are out with fire extinguishers, hosing audience to try to get them to quiet down so that Jobs can continue the presentation.

    10.50 One last thing.

10.52 Mac in a Windows world. Impossible to run Windows applications without emulation.

10.55 Microsoft's dominance. Monoculture. Technical superiority of Windows. (?) BTW Phil's library is now 25% transferred to the iMac mini.

10.59 Poor performance of XNU. BSD "1970s" operating system. Darwin served its purpose.

11.00 Dave Cutler, designer of Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista has just come on stage.

11.05 New kernel for Mac OS X. Mac OS X high level subsystems built upon Windows. New operating system. "Mac OS W". Leopard is Mac OS W 11.0.

11.07 Jobs is now talking to Bill Gates on the big screen again.

11.08 "Best of Apple, Best of Microsoft, everything will 'just work' from now on"

11.10 On a personal note. Steve Jobs "Best years of my life at Apple"

11.12 Excited to be named CEO of Disney previous day, amazing new opportunities, but running two major companies difficult. (Bill Gates is still on screen, he's part of the conversation)

11.15 Successor at Apple needed to be picked, someone with experience, knowledge about how to succeed in a difficult market, perhaps changing Apple to be the #1 and not the #2

11.16 Bill Gates, whose departure from Microsoft was announced last year, to take the helm of Apple later this year. "I couldn't be more excited. Apple is a great company, and we're going to make some great products".

11.20 The start of another great year at Apple, thanks for coming.

11.22 Lights are back on, people are leaving conference hall.

$19.99 for a downloaded movie, that's absolutely ridiculous. There is no way I would ever pay that much when I can go buy a new release DVD for $12-14.99. Amazon's service will fail, especially if Apple does indeed release a Movie Store.

I'm not a fan of $14.99 either, but it's a little more reasonable.

Of course all of this depends on the quality and if you can burn it.

    Six more days. :)
Agree - $19.99 to $24.99 is the price for pristine 1080p Blu-ray discs at Fry's or Best Buy.

Ever watched a YouTube video full-screen on a 40" Samsung 1920x1080 LCD television...

If you have, did you manage to stick it out for the whole 30 seconds before stopping it?

HD or DOA. Two options. (At that $19.99 price - for $3.99/movie I might do some VHS quality stuff for a plane trip.)
