    I just wanted to say that the Ad's have changed.

    Instead of the iMac, there are now the MacBooks.

    Sorry if this has been posted before, not enough time to look up.

    Maybe I'm getting old, but there doesn't seem to be any right now. :( All of the games I find interesting are being funneled/gimped to the 360, or the promising ones have been blah in general. The only game that my PC buddies got into, which I didn't for obvious reasons, was WoW, which of course is cross platform. Now that's all some of them play. :confused:

    I haven't bought a PC game for a few years now. My PC Tower(s) are only on for a little bit of work these days.

    What type of games do you like, I can ask my friends if they've found anything good at the moment, or if WoW is still consuming their lives? I've been gaming on PCs since the eighties and prior to this drout used ot game all of the time, mostly online and via LAN parties. And MS thinks we'll pay for services that are still free...

    This is the only game (http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock/) I'm even remotely interested in playing. But I'm not hold my breath, since System Shock 2 and other games that uses a similar approach to the first one, kind of blew chuncks in comparison.

    Are you basing your prediction on reason and research or plain apple fanboyism?

    If you read the first article, it says:

    "In early representatives of Apple and Creative, including Apple CEO Steve Jobs, met to discuss ways they could work together, the complaint stated. Apple requested to license Creative's technology and also suggested it could invest in a potential spinoff of Creative's music player business, but Creative declined both proposals, according to Creative's complaint."

    Why would apple do this? It is obvious that apple knows it might lose, hence trying to break a deal outside of court.
    That meeting occurred FIVE YEARS AGO. Well before Apple could have even thought of Creative suing them for an interface. I think the mountain of prior art by, well, almost everyone (like NeXT, and since Apple bought NeXT, all of that prior art is now Apple's), will probably end up invalidating Creative's patent.

    I tend to look at myspace like I do ebay - a pretty good idea fufilling/creating some useful needs, that has been manipulated/used by some crappy people, limiting it's appeal and usefulness.

    Finally, Dell decides to use AMD chips! So now you have a choice between Intel chips and AMD chips in their computers. Looks like the PC market has VASTLY changed throughout the past 3 years. I remember Intel was always at the top, but now things have been changing slowly. Oh well, just wanted to say what was on my mind...Trying to kill some time off work. :-\ Who knows, when Conroe and Merom comes out, maybe Apple will sell a crap load of their Macs when compared to other pcs. :-D

    Oh well, here's the story:

    The DRM has nothing to do with ITMS's business model.

    You've been able to strip the DRM out of these for ages (without the burn/rip cycle). All of these songs exist on the various P2P networks. People are still buying from the store.

    If you build your business model on the assumption that everybody is a thief, you just become as hated as the RIAA.

    Exactly! I know when I used to steal music it wasn't because I wouldn't buy it, it was because it was far easier to leave the computer on downloading some songs that I would have to go to two or three places to find.

    Now that their is iTMS it's easier to buy and I can find most of the music that I want that wouldn't even be in stores.

    Yes, some people will always steal but most of the consumers won't steal if they find a service they like. With iTMS service there is no reason to steal. Yes I do strip the DRM from my files. Why? Because I don't like having DRM on my files, it's just that simple. I am not using 5 computers, using 3. I use the non-DRMed files on my iBook and iPod. No reason to de-DRM except for the fact it makes me feel like I don't have control over the music.

    Bottom line is people will support your service or products if they enjoy and use them. So as a company you have to trust your consumers and consumers must trust a company. DRM = breaking trust. :(

    Oblivion is ok, but kinda boring. I think it will be another short played American rpg for me. :( But I'll still give it more time.. I just have company this weekend.

    I bought Casino Royale on BD based solely on your sig, and it wasn't that great. I heard it was some super action movie and it only had 10 minutes of action tops. I was kinda bummed out. Interesting story of course, but meh.

    Jaguar is much faster than anything I've ever seen in Mac OS 9. Finding files is a piece of cake. Multiple Find File windows with Jaguar, and you can custom search any way you like. And because it is integrated with the Finder you can move files back and forth with drag and drop with more ease than you could with Sherlock. It is faster than Mac OS 8.0 Find. And it instantly responds to quiting a file search. Don't judge Jaguar based on previous versions of Mac OS X. It really is worth $300 for all you can do with it. If you are having trouble with speed with Jaguar, it could be due to a haxie that hasn't been updated for Jaguar. Older versions of Windowshade slow Jaguar down. It has been updated.

    A lot of places I know of are still on Illutrator 8 because there are so many pre press issues with transparency in Illustrator 10 and illustrator 8 works fine. We use Illustrator CS where I work.

    That's kind of strange though-- you can't deny that some clients have Illustrator 10, and those same ones are bound to use transparencies sooner or later.

    I went to some Adobe seminar aimed at "print professionals" last year that went over the entire creative suite, especially transparencies and using files with them in InDesign. It was funny watching all these pre-press guys bitching and moaning about transparencies, but the Adobe spokeswoman swore that "they are working on it" and gave the steps to fix them before press.

    If you're going to burn to CD, then you burn directly from the WAV. Your CD will sound as good as playing the original WMA file. If you re-encode as mp3, then burn to CD you'll have further signal degradation.

    If you want to store the music on your computer, you take the slight hit in sound quality and re-encode to mp3 or whatever format you want.

    Ive never re-encoded music before, so I don't know how signficant the sound difference is. Of course, the previous crappy Sony players required you to re-encode ALL your music to go on the player... :p

    I always thought of it this way (not based 100% on facts, just a mere visual model)

    heres a sound file frequence, uncompressed on a CD: (100% original store-bought quality)
    ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

    heres what happens to the sound file frequency that is compressed in MP3:
    ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||_|_|_|_|_|_____

    reburning it to a CD, you dont get the original quality back... now lets say the above MP3 one is Windows Media DRMed format

    burning to a CD, its the same frequency range, only in a larger file
    >||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||_|_|_|_|_|_____<

    now lets say that ripping a song in AAC format, does this to an Uncompressed original CD:
    _____|_|_|_|_||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

    so, if you were to re-rip a WMA file into an AAC file, your frequency might look like this:

    _____|_|_|_|_||||||||||||||||||||||_|_|_|_|_|_____

    meaning, you just lost more sound quality.

    (again, the way I portrayed WMA and AAC in here is NOT exactly how it is, its just a more visual way to show how re-encoding an already compressed track can hurt it.)

    basically, what this is showing, is that nearly every audio encoding out there encodes and compresses their music in different ways. others remove the lower frequency's, others remove the higher frequency's...etc

    so basically, i try to keep from encoding a lossy sound file, to another lossy sound file....

    it's really most fascinating...thank you

    some of us hardware side IT people often make fun of the software IT people and it is often because of the introverted way most of them act or their lack of knowledge of the hardware side of things

    but what's interesting is that the hardware side techies like network engineers and desktop techs would not have anything to implement and maintain if it wasn't for those coders who make it all possible

    i always hear a lot about the hardware side of apple's products and the praise they get when things are done right, but i rarely hear about the heroes in the background, the developers who make it all run smoothly

    of all the products apple has ever made, the mac operating systems is what really makes a mac a mac:D

    I'm hoping that if something goes badly wrong, we can restore our installations from the disk images I have made and backed up... if that fails, then all the software is legit and sorting it will be a pain but the plan is to minimise disruption, not to avoid it entirely.

    However, if the G5s soon start leaking coolant all over the desks as rumored, then I guess we'll have more concerns than merely using QuarkXpress.

    they could do something how M$ activation works. Which is a 10 point hash system made off you you system specs and serial numbers (number from hard drives, optical eta) that can not be backworks calucalated to what you specs are. Basicly you are fine with M$ as long as you have 7 of the 10 points. If you drop below 7 you have to reactivated it and then you start fresh at 10 points. This is to prevent people crom cloning hard drives and putting them in other computers.
