I figured it was for the "crap" posts that I saw around this time last year. There was a thread about MWSF last year when Apple was teasing us with those headlines and about 3 guys were posting every 10 seconds-just 1 line crap posts trying to get the numbers up.

Just thought I'd add - I've repaired permissions twice, but it's still the same. Although I did get a slightly faster bootup and appl launches etc., but the glitching is still there

I like firefox, much speedier than Safari (not a whole lot, but still noticable), and I hate the fact that when you have multiple GIFs on one page, that the computer goes up to 100% CPU and slows down... firefox doesnt do that for me.

Correction: The Spmac.com piece stated that Apple's installed base exceeds 11% of the computers in use. As for your speculation that Apple hardware doesn't last longer, you are just splitting hairs, and not very artfully.
If your hardware breaks, then you have have to replace it. However, it doesn't have to break for it to be of no use to you. If the hardware or software can't perform the new tasks you require of it--even if performs your old tasks perfectly well--then you also need to replace it.
The wonderful thing about Macs is that they tend to be forward compatible. When old Mac software is no longer useful, the software gets replaced. To a much greater extent, when old Windows software is no longer useful, the hardware gets replaced.

If Apple has 5% of the installed base, I don't think it's because Apple hardware lasts longer - I think it's because people use it longer.

actually anyone before 2003 is old school since many joined after that ;)
there will be a flood of 2003 members in the top ten i think, no posters from 2000, and maybe three from 2001
the 2002 and 2003 posters will dominate the top 100 spots i think since they came into macrumors when it was a full on site with everything to talk about...many earlier posters had much less to talk about and macrumors was definitely in its early days
i am one strange one who loved the old days before limitations and moderators...while i believe moderators do a great job, i liked it when it was more self governing
but with over 20000 members here, there is definitely a need for order and thus for moderators
i think arn should assign several more mods to make your jobs easier...something like three mods for every ten thousand more members to make it more manageable...you guys could do with six working mods and maybe more
i would like to see j-lo, shadowfax, and wdlove as mods...those are my nominations for the next three to help you guys out, and if you need more, elect mr. macman, krossfyter, and king cobra
and one can't forget macbandit either

Online play would be great and I would buy it for that aspect alone, if not, I woud try it out first. I would like to play some Wii games with my rural friend.

When visiting using Firefox, I get a completely different page. They should change the message on the first page to mention Firefox too. Otherwise, if it weren't for this post on MacBytes, I would have no idea that it's compatible with Firefox.

Only solution is to do another series of ads like the original iPod ads. Man sits at computer, (iMac), records guitar through GarageBand, imports to iTunes, plays and imports to iPod, plays as leaves apartment.
Then a simple iMac + iLife + iPod, Apple.
Lesser shown ads could include iPhoto importing while working with Pages on a MacBook Pro, (drag pic from iPhoto to expos� in a corner hotspot and select Pages and add photo), print out and add to report folder.
Importing family video from Camcorder through iMovie, possibly add a short slideshow, add soundtrack and burn. Cut to evening with Mac Mini connected to TV and use Front Row to play DVD.
Video talking to family via iChat, new member joins chat. That way each time we also cut to new member "live", different Mac shows. Finally the final member joins, Grandparents obviously living abroad and original person lifts new born grandchild to iSight so they can see them rather than just receive pictures and letters, (I actually used this scenario when the G5 with iSight came out and showed one elderly woman this after I picked up on her children living abroad and not seeing her grandchildren much, she was close to tears when I suggested this use).
May need brushing up on, but I think this campaign if widely used enough would lead to more switchers than ever. They could even show people using Office and other cross-platform apps subtlely to make a point.

I wasn't expecting any...the ibooks and the powerbooks are the only expected update and they have rebates until the 25th...look for new laptops then...maybe the 26th
