HAHAH yes an apple outlet would be sweet...my family is always in the Lancaster area for those outlets...especially the ones in Reading.
I used to go to both areas for Christmas shopping. I wish I could get to Reading China and Glass. They had some amazing deals on all sorts of good stuff. Orlando has outlet malls but they charge retail here mostly.

Bartender seems like a good line of work for him. He can mix drinks using other people's recipes all day long.

No, it only affects Office v.X. The security flaw is not present in Office 2004.
Right, that's versions v.X and 2001. Sorry.
EDIT: I shouldn't have been so quick to say that. Office 2004 does contain the flaw, the patch is in Service Pack 1 as described in KB #883951 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=883951#13)
Also an update to fix the flaw is now available from Microsoft.
Link already provided above.

I waste my time arguing with PC users on why I don't waste my time with PCs.
LOL. Isn't that the truth! :D

No, Vice City is better because of what they didn't include. Nowhere outside of America does adding more make something better (which is funny as the console GTA's were developed in Scotland). Bigger is not related to better. The whole Virtual Pet aspect of SA really put me off, get health by eating food, but not too much! Distracted from the main game itself. Vice City didn't have needless things like that, or a world map that was simply too big.
Agreed Vice City did rock way better than San Andreas.

So before the deep breath of answering, its worth stating that Im not up for a slanging match here, but I do find this topic really interesting and it would be good to get a clarified, multi-perspective build of the story :).
First, most of these books are written by people out side the community and done quickly to make a buck on the Steve Jobs name.
This book was co-written by the co-founder of MacWorld so I think you could probably say he was in the community when the NeXT story was unfolding.
The six months was correct as I couldn't remember the exact period off hand. But there was a settlement, and there was a non-compete clause for NeXT. And it was that non-compete that forced NeXT out of the desktop market... permanently.
Ok, but this article (http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=17445) says that the non-compete clause stated all NeXT computers had only (a big only of course but nevertheless) to be more powerful than the similar Apple product so it wouldnt compete?

They're doing it because otherwise, Apple products would wind up costing twice as much as equivalent products from other people.
That's what they want you to think. They want you to think they are building their product in China to cut the consumer a good deal and leaving themselves a slim profit margin. Au contraire monfraire. ;)

I am at work now. The only box checked in IE is the "take the configuration of IE automatically over", losely translated from Dutch, it's the first checkbox.
Just did the tracert thing in the command app. It says "Time-out by assignment", and it tries it 30 times.
hi again, building a quick windows 2000 box so i have the same thing to work on. can't do all this from memory any more?! and a lot of commands changed from w2k to xp. so.... ok to the IE settings. no proxy, so that makes tracking down the block easier. the 'take over' 'auto config' box is checked by default and will have no impact. the time out on tracert makes me want to ask more questions. sorry. if you want to call it quits, let me know, otherwise i will keep working on this.
is your account an adminstrator account? are you allowed (buy the company and/or 'it guys')to install programs and make changes to the computer? are you on a domain or just a workgroup? anything else being blocked on your local computer (i.e. can you browse the internet without trouble?) are you running any 'firewall' software on the computer, or is the firewall in the 'server closet' with the 'it guys'?
anything you don't know how to find, let me know. i will have more commands for you in a few hours after the w2k box is done and running. sounds like a route/firewall issue so far. we can use some w2k commands to check what is being blocked, and then create a route around it. again, as long as the 'it guys' are not going to try and hurt you or something ?!?

Both browsers have their advantages. Firefox seems to be more compatible in general; that doesn't mean there aren't any sites that look fine in Safari but not in Firefox (ATI's page (http://www.ati.com/), of all things, was one of them - I don't know if it still is).
I like Safari's bookmarks system. Most browsers (including MSIE) have a two-tier bookmark system. Frequently used bookmarks go in the bookmarks bar; less often used bookmarks are in the bookmarks menu. Safari's is three-tier: bookmarks bar, bookmarks menu, bookmark collections screen (for stuff you don't use often enough to put in the bookmarks menu, but that you still want to have around). Another advantage to Safari (at least for .Mac members) is the bookmark synchronization with .Mac - no other browser on any platform that I know of does this.

If cheaper is always better...
Buy a Daewoo, up to 60% discount on some models.
---
I still don't understand making the effort in keeping a reverse switchers, let them make the mistake. The joy in seeing them suffer with Windows is well worth it.
But at least they'll have the games to make them happy about their endless suffering.

ooooo, I can't wait! Assuming the frames are basically the same, what is the chance that an existing PBTi owner could swap out their combo drive and put in a dvd-r? Is that even possible in a notebook?
looks like I am going to be working overtime to save enough to buy one of these bad boys.

No more AltiVec enhanced scrolling, MPEG-2 encoding, real-time effects with FCP, fast iMovie rendering, iTunes...
Not to mention other pissed off 3rd party developers (especially Adobe)! So shut up about IBM chips, its not going to happen! Macs would become overally slower then with G4's.
As for revolution (aka new powermac which is 2x faster then anything before). Well, its not going to happen either. Marketing doesn't allow it, overall manufacturing costs dont allow it and many other things dont allow it. It is always going to be like this.. So, 20% speed bump is best we will ever get, which is ok with me.
We might see a high end IBM processor that has altivec support... Just because there are none out now doesn't mean there will never be any out. And even without AltiVec on a fast system, the OS will be fast - altivec or not. Not as fast as it would be w/ altivec, but fast enough. Adobe might be pissed, but who cares. They can deal.
As for no 2x speed increases - that is not true at all. I could totally see that happening. Why would marketing not allow that? Wouldn't they welcome it? If apple figured out some semiconductor manufacturing strategy right now, and started being able to produce 2.8 GHz g4's at half the cost of the current ones, why the hell wouldn't apple be able to sell it??? Im not saying that will happen, but technology is unpredictable... Be ready for anything.

I push FireFox on every single person I come across using IE. As the program is free for anyone and is community supported I have no qualms plugging it like it's nobody's business. As long as it remains free, I will always support and push it others. Once (if ever) they charge for it, I will still tell people to get it, but not as much.
It is truly a great browser, made by some fantastic people. Microsoft may have won the battle against Netscape but the war for the internet is far from over.

I think Apple would be making a huge mistake to sacrafice the form factor to accommodate a Superdrive.
What percentage of laptop users need the ability to burn DVD's on the plane, in a car, waiting for a bus (etc...)? It's not like I don't understand how cool it would be to have a PowerBook with a Superdrive, but never at the expense of the it's design. How could you sacrifice it's shape for something as frivilous as a DVD burner?
