This is immediately after the 1GHz G4 came out:
It is important to note that this is only the first installment in this processor family. "The big news here is that this device is certainly not topped out," said Swearingen. Mac users can reasonably expect incremental performance increases from this processor family in the future, taking Apollo to its promised GHz+ performance levels. Swearingen could not comment on when these increments will come or what size they will be. The Apollo G4s are available now at speeds between 600MHz and 1GHz.

I doubt its a feature we will see on any future versions of Mac OS X.
It isn't happening on login, as there is a picture and a quicktime movie being opened as it is all happening.
And see how everything is coming in from off the screen.
It looks like some sort of animation they have made as a demonstration, not something they have done with the actual OS.
But it certainly is interesting, and the shadow effect is very cool.

Ya, i lost a work unit for some reason and it was almost done, but the next one work correctly.
Don't lose hope but I'm giving my machine some well-deserved rest after 3 broken work units.

Anyone know?:confused: :confused: You might want to take a look at here (http://lpcm.esm.psu.edu/~tjy107/cluster.html). its kind of inevitible there will be a size increase to accomodate new bits and pieces or as in the case of many previous models it may just get uncereomoniously ditched in preference of an all new model. if its to keep up the running in the mobile workstation field - more power will be required to justify the astronomical asking prices.

Because that would clog the already satured system bus. Unless Altivec is on the processor running at full speed, Altivec would provide very little in terms of performance gain, and would fill the system bus much more quickly.
It is a good idea though, especially if Apple moved over to IBM processors that lacked an Altivec alternative.

I was looking at the M-Audio Sonica last night. It's a sound card connected by USB and it has an optical output and can feed a 5.1 Dolby Digital system. All this was $79. Is it good? I didn't hear it yet. I think I'll take the chance though. Requirements? Mac OS X 10.1.5 or higher.

It is quite sad to think that so many people are not going to vote on overall ability but desire to lock down

If we're going to have iPod nano-linked sensors to measure the exercise of coach potatoes and other non-runners, how 'bout sensors on our keyboards that measure how many calories we use up typing? Or from swiveling our desk chairs? Or from pushing buttons to change channels on the TV? Or from opening and closing the refrigerator door? Or from struggling to open the big bag of chips?
Actually, coach potatoes do run now and then, such as when the pizza guy arrives and the doorbell rings.

Also this should work
work = ~/.work
pause = killall -STOP -m "FahCore*"
resume killall -CONT -m "FahCore*"
start = cd ~/F@H1; ./fah5 -local -advmethods > /dev/null &
stop = killall fah5
If these work(just try work) then we can just enter them manually so you don't have to put in ~/.work to get your work.
