Halo had/has the potential for an excellent film - especially with Peter Jackson reportedly interested in directing.

A (gasp!) Performa 6360. I had decided to try to be a full-on MacHead, and this was my first stop. Read a lot of posts for a long time, and learned a lot.

Anyway I've had my fun here for now. I think it is settled that the G4 does poorly at this particular float test. I've done everything I can think of and gone though all sorts of variations of the loop trying to increase the IPC but I could never make significant headway on either the PC or the Mac.
That said, this test is essentialy a test where we do 400000000 double precision square roots which we don't even store and nothing else. There are no memory access, only very predictable branches. I have radically changed the loop and compiler flags and essentially nothing besides the sqrt() makes any difference.
I do not regard this test as important in the overall picture. It does not illustrate anything important to anyone, unless someone sits around doing square roots all day.
I might also add that designing a meaningful benchmark is very hard. I think SPEC is about as good as it gets, and yes the G4 looses in floats there too. :)

You know, DVD-R doesn't mean that you can read DVDs.
It means you can burn DVD-Rs....
Anyway, that guy probably did mean DVD-RW anyway. :)

So get this!
Anyone who joins up to Greek Boy's SETI thing will get a COMPLIMENTARY glass of Cava - Spain's delightful fizzy white wine - which I stole from the second fridge in the house kitchen!
WOOOO!
Amazing! I did not know this! Come one, come all! Join me and Allotriophagy, and he will make your wildest dreams come true!!

Hey guys, in a few days I'm going to have a second interview for an Apple Campus Rep job at my local university. I just wanted to know if there is anything I should prepare for, any questions I should think about, etc. It's a dream job, and something I'm beyond excited to try and get.

You pretty much captured my feelings.
Somebody wasted a lot of time on this.
Yeah. And I'm all for spoofing SJ. Oh well, its probably hard to humor the faithful. ;)

Wow, that's insane... but awesome at the same time. If I worked for Apple, I would definitely obey their rules.

Completely off topic, but I have the shirt that you have in your avatar!
Powerbook G5 is no rumor.
Wait 'till Tuesday ;)
Hilarous. (but I voted for iPhone)

Doesn't OS X use Apple Java instead of Sun Java? If you try to install Sun Java, it just directs you to Apple's site. I did notice, however, that further down the article it says that the security hole hasn't been confirmed on OS X.
The article I read last week said that Mac OS X was not vulnerable, so I'm not sure what's happening with it. However, considering how you need an extra browser plug-in to use Java with something other than Safari, it might be trouble to run an exploit on Mac OS X.

I have a GeForce 4 MX, by default, and the 4MX has 64 MB RAM not 32 as stated above. For the latest games its quite good:
Warcraft3: 1280 res all details: great!
UT: even 1600 res all details is still cool, but resolution overkill IMHO
Q3: 1280 all details: couldnt be much better
Black&White: 1024 all details: does its job really good. Dont know if UT2003 will still be good with that card, but it should.
Yeah, the PC has games as dogs have fleas, but to the Mac come only the cream of the crop games :D
I dont even miss CS...!

It was the only RPG i have ever played. I thought it was a great game, just wish i had bought it for the SNES while it was still for sale a retail stores. I can't really justify spending $50 on a used SNES cartridge. Hopefully it will come out for the virtual console.

No, apparently they don't.:D
A: FINDER is a CARBON app. It has been said that the very OOP design of Cocoa would not serve the Finder well.
The problem is not that new application won't be written in Cocoa... they most likely will since Cocoa is a Rapid Application Development environment.
The problem is that the bread and butter apps that sell Macs (Photoshop, Quark, Illustrator, Office) are written in Millions upon millions of lines of Carbon (or Classic) code. Do you expect that Microsoft will rewrite a million lines of code so we can get a Cocoa version of Office? Or will they simply continue to release Carbon versions forever?

After all of the bruhaha from various record label execs screaming for "variable" (read: rip-off) pricing on iTunes, in the end it seems (surprise!) .99 aint so bad after all (http://news.ft.com/cms/s/297eecc2-d934-11da-8b06-0000779e2340.html).

No WiFi?
I'd take the XBox 360 Premium, + WiFi over an XBox 360 with a bigger hard drive, thanks.
I don't see why XBox 360 owners would be ticked, unless they *needed* HDMI (why does it matter that much? Component is still the same quality). It's just a hard drive upgrade. I'd still buy a Premium if I was buying one today.
