why won't anyone just admit that the only reason the new cases have such big fans, heatsinks, and vents is simply because they are overclocked 7455s that need the extra cooling?
whenever the G5s (Power4 or something else) come out they will most likely have a completely new case design to match Apple's contemporary use of brushed metal for pro machines and white translucent plastic for consumer.
the new cases seem to me to be an interim solution until better processors are available... or maybe not.

OK, so maybe all you nay sayers and jokesters on my 'so tuesday' thread might just be mistaken...
im just hopin for a late announcement today. change up on the old site is good news. maybe they were aiming for today but couldn't pull together the site to refleckt on all the good crap comin out so fast, so it might be late today, or tommorow. keep in mind that the average hours will end in 15 min, so they might just do it tommorow for a fresh day.

It's a suburban area - not a city. I really doubt that there will be too many people there.
As for traffic, you don't have to deal too much with Philly traffic since it is right near the junction of 76 and Route 1. Keep in mind Kelly drive and MLK (formerly West river) are both closed for the Dad Vail Regatta.
There might not be too many people there, but finding a place to park will be difficult. I suspect that's why they chose an side street, since the parking is usually on one of them. All the towns along the main line could use a parking garage, even if it's only 2-3 floors.
I've had a habit of showing up for Apple store openings about 30 minutes prior to the opening and staying away from the rabid Mac-o-lytes in line. I still got two t-shirts but missed the third.
Hopefully, it's a good day to be there.

The Five Eras of the Macrumors Forums
Chapter 1
In the beginning there was blakespot and he said "let there be forums" and there were forums. Thus the Macrumors forums were created. The ability to allow comments on news articles began to draw a community that soon swelled to near 1500 and there was rejoicing. Alongside the rejoicing came flamewars, but mostly rejoicing.
Chapter 2
But alas, not all was well in the Macrumors forums, the admins grew dissatisfied with the rather primitive comment system and thus the site integrated a new backend. Gone was the primitive comment system and in it's place stood the glorious pillar that was vBulliten. And so it came to pass that in April of the year of our lord 2001 all of the existing members departed on an exodus to the new forums.
Chapter 3
Bu August 2001 the ranks of Macrumors began to swell and many familiar faces such as dukestreet began to arrive. Over the next few months Macrumors enjoyed a massive influx of new sane users. But in Feburary 2002 the serenity was shattered. A chosen son was cast out of the glorious forums by God himself, never to return. The message was clear: "One cannot go aginst the word of God." And while most accepted this a few dissented and were exiled or fled.
Chapter 4
Community Discussion was enjoying it's golden age until it was shattered. A massive influx of posters with no other purpose then political discussion arrived. The sane members fled while a few were trapped by the Siren's call of flame bait. Finally the political threads were exiled to the darkest corner of the forums, in the hopes that they would never be seen again. The demi-gods began to roam the Earth alongside mortals in this time, it was a time of magic and strife. The Gods even delegated some of their powers to a few Chosen Ones.
Chapter 5
We now live in the fifth era. New members who somehow accumulate massive amounts in a short time continually amaze while Hell's minions still attempt their occasional attack on the forums.

... I machined parts for a company that made lead frame trim and form machines. Motorola was their biggest customer. Most of the machines went to Malaysia.
What this generally meant then was that the production was generally trouble free and in volume.
The only speculation I would make from this is that capacity would be freed up for ramp up of follow on parts (7470?) and that prices on G4's might drop to a price favorable to inclusion in iBooks.
Other than these observations...I'll hold on to my $.02 for awhile...

My shiny new Dual 1.25GHz Power Mac G4 arrived today. I ordered it the day this model was announced, so I assume I am the first on my block to have the fastest Mac ever made... but only until they announce the next new machine.
I find it amusing that people are so worried about their computer becoming obsolete. If it does what you bought it for, and continues to do what you bought it for, you should be happy with it!
I should know. I was the first on my block to buy a Mac IIvx (the first model with a CD-ROM drive), which was "obsoleted" by Apple 3 or 4 months later. Nevertheless, it continued to read my CD-ROMs and let me do word processing, photo editing, etc.
Now I'm into Final Cut Pro, and this machine should serve me just fine for years, no matter what Apple announces next week/month/year!

We used ver 5 from the minute it was released...
I wanted to upgrade, but my boss was too cheap at the time. Now, when I accept ads from agencies, most of them use Quark 4.1. I don't think I have ever received a file made in Quark 5. I just thought it was kind of weird, but never really paid too much attention to it.

You have to understand what people are telling you. Computers do not pose a special problem for plasma screens. Burn-in is generic to the technology, irrespective of the source. In the industrial applications that I mentioned in my earlier post, plasma screens most certainly suffer burn-in, but that is only a minor problem compared to their real problem. Their real problem is burn-out. That is, plasma screens that are left running 24-7 in our nearby casinos have to be replaced about every nine months.

some of them should be there. i mean, the ghz processor is an ideal next upgrade. but who knows if they'll just go up to 933.... ddr... i'm not sure how it works in laptops... ie, if it's that much different than desktop ddr such that the fact that the pmacs and xserves are using ddr is not enough.... however, looking at the trend, i wouldn't be surprised if it were to use ddr in the next pbook update.
faster bus is fairly likely i think.... fairly. same with graphics card
superdrive though. doubtful..... though, it's possible. assuming the drive itself is being kept secret so far.....
