i personally would very rarely use a superdrive. Especially at 5 bucks a disk. I have no problem backing stuff up to an external HD or to multiple cd-rw's. I agree with the crowd that says keep the form factor the same and toss a 24x burner inside. The dvd-r isn't worth the extra money to me.

I think duke and krossfyter logged off for the night. I just saw Rower a little while ago.
Haven't seen Secrets and Lies yet. The last great movie I saw was Y Tu Mama Tambien. I saw Road to Perdition and Minority report too, but Y Mama was raunchy, and I like raunchy.:D I'll look for it next time I go out though. :)

In addition to that, I also think Apple did it from a marketing standpoint to set off the performance from the top-end DP 1.25GHz. If the dual 1GHz had 2MB of L3 cache as well, there wouldn't be as much of a perceived performance difference to justify the extra $800.

I know the new Powermac must be a great system to own, but I do think the hardware upgrades recently are just too incremental, and I think the 1.25ghz Dual G4 is just a sort term solution to a much larger issue. Apple really needs to upgrade everything in a big way. They shouldn't even be selling stuff with G3 processors anymore, and their low end G4's should be selling for a lot less. I am sure your system will look good, but still, the overall look of the line is definitely a step backwards from the Quicksilver case. I just hope whatever they come up with next is completely different, sleek, and has a 2ghz G5 processor in it:D

Even if the size were doable in the PowerBook's 1" thick (thin?) form factor, would that make a superdrive practical if it drained the battery very quickly? If not, then either keeping with the current solution (i.e., loading and editing DV on the PowerBook and later transfering via GBit ethernet to a PowerMac for burning) or moving to an external bundled DVD-R that was supported under iMovie would seem to be the practical route for now.

For people such as myself, having a PowerBook with a built in Superdrive would be amazing!! Currently my PowerBook G4 acts as a complete desktop replacement system, so alot of the time it spends it time plugged in......
The idea behind having a built in DVD burning would mean that you wouldn't have to worry about finding someone or somewhere with a PowerMac to burn a DVD, you could do it directly off the PowerBook..... indeed it's impossible that you could burn a full DVD off a current battery without it going flat..... But when you're a freelancer like me, going from clients offices to clients offices, being able to directly burn a DVD without having to pester them for a DVD burner would be much more professional and much less time consuming.......
What's so wrong with having it as an option anyway??

Heck, there are people that still work on putting together the best regular two channel stereo system that they can. I'm one of them. :)

exactly my point man, they can't update the Ti book until the 1.25s are shipping or they will steal the PowerMacs "thunder"
so you Ti Book guys are going to have to wait until at least october for your PB

I just signed up for Gamefly and I'm not happy already. I signed up Thurs. and it's Sat. afternoon and only 1 game has shipped. Gamefly's site says 24 hours to ship, there is no reason for them to take 2 days to ship something out. Add that to the fact it's gonna take another 4-6 days to arrive from the west coast. So with the return trip, that's 2 weeks out of the month the game is in transit, no thanks. I'm going to cancel after this month.

The only thing I use Camino for is logging into my bank's Internet banking page, since it refuses to consistently behave in Safari. I prefer the interface smoothness and speed of Safari to the slower-launching, less Mac-like Camino (not to even mention Firefox).

Here is a news article i found:
When it comes to logos, what do you think of when you see an apple -- the computer company, or the Beatles' record label?
Apple Corps is the record label and is suing the computer maker for allegedly violating a deal by going into the music business with the iTunes music store, which is what iPod owners use to download songs.
The two had agreed in 1991 to a "field of use" agreement -- essentially saying they wouldn't step on each other's toes.
Both companies feature apples in their logos -- with the record label having a shiny green apple, and the computer company boasting a cartoonish one with a bite taken out.
The case will be heard in London by a judge who has admitted owning an iPod.

Well not really... but I just found that the Mexican Apple site has a lot of old pages. I thought it was cool to be able to look at the iMac G4 page from when it first came out. Makes me look at my machine a bit differently.
Check out the Hardware, Software and Mac OS X sections.
Some are a bit harder to find. Try typing things into the address bar. I found Jaguar (http://www.apple.com/lae/macosx/jaguar/) this way.
My iPod (http://www.apple.com/lae/ipod/)
My iMac (http://www.apple.com/lae/imac/)
Kind of neat for nostalgic purposes. Anyone know of any other sites like this? It would be cool to see Apple bragging about some OS 9 features.
