I hope Apple doesn't attempt to steal it. I'd be happy if they bought them out and integrated it with Tiger. The iSight/barcode reader thing is awesome.

it's a pretty good game, I might pick it up for PS3 (I sold my 360 copy ages ago to a buddy), with the increased graphical goodies (ie. draw distance) and apparently reduced load times, it should be pretty gravy. Just, only thing about it....the damn stupid leveling system. it's bound to annoy.

There was even one topic wth the title "Dual 867 and Fire" or something to that affect. The attitude isn't necessary and you still haven't given me any real info. Are the chips in the new PMs different than previous G4s? Perhaps it is an issue with trying to implement DDR memory in the new machine? I wasn't being a d!ck so just chill out. I'll ask my question again: What's up with thew PowerMacs and all the probs? The Quicksilvers and Graphites were so solid.

Sorry - not trying to launch in to you.

Precise chip details I don't know, but it looks like this is covered in another posting.

WRT "overclocked". The essence of "overclocking" is going outside manf specs. Apple would be crazy to do this. Consider: Apple says the PMG4 will operate reliably (their warranty - take the machine back if it fails stuff) if you keep it within the specified "ambient" temperature - up to 30c or 40c or something like that. Apple will have designed the machine so that if this condition is met, then the CPU will not exceed a particular temp - probably 70C. Mot will have supplied Apple with chips that Mot warrants can be reliabibly run at a particular clock rate if they are kept within a particular temp range (this is is likekly to be 70C). So this gives a chain of, if the user users the machine as specified, Apple and Mot will replace it if it fails. If you "overclock", ie push the clock rate up and it hence it generates more heat and goes outside the specified temp range, Apple will not warrant it works and Mot wouldn't replace the CPU if it failed for this reason. So I say that these machines are not overclocked, whatever you, and thousands of others on both this board and maybe others, say - simply because I think the definition is all wrong. So in that sense, "rubbish" is still my opinion of the notion that they are overclocked - not as an attack on you but on the validity of using the phrase/word.

If machines are bursting in to flames, I've not seen anything here, but I'll keep a look out.

Hope that's a more helpful response.

I know I can get away with using any Apple computer, but when you are spending your $$$ and you frequent rumor sites...you tend to want to see updates at the right time...not after you buy. I will buy regardless of if Apple updates the iBook or TiBook in the next month.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who has been personally involved in the talks, initially proposed selling all films at a flat price of $9.99 -- an offer the studios flatly rejected.

"We can't be put in a position where we lose the ability to price our most popular content higher than less popular stuff," said a studio exec close to the negotiations.

According to the book iCon Jobs/NeXT was prevented from hiring any more Apple employees for a period of just six months. However, Jobs had already cherry picked the best people before this statement and those that wanted to go from Apple following Jobs' exit left of their own accord pretty soon after.

well, actually, we don't. But, if we did need one, this is how I'd setup the iMac:

    1167MHz G4
With an increased bus speed and a clock speed 32% higher than the previous 800MHz iMac, this sucker would take the old iMac to town.

    Radeon 9500
This would finally give the iMac something to talk about when comparing game performance. Plus, this would make the iMac a viable prosumer computer for 3D editing.

    Monitor Spanning Option
Paired with a matching 17" widescreen display (which sadly, does not exist), the iMac could become a video editing suite. Final Cut Pro would become more manageable, and any creative user could make use of the extra screen real estate.

And This Wouldn't Kill The PowerMac
If the low-end PowerMac were bumped to dual-1GHz or even dual-933MHz, competition for speed would be minimal. All power users would still go for the PowerMac, especially with the options for expansion that the PowerMacs offer.

The Radeon 9500 would not deter buyers from the PowerMac; the GeForce4 Ti 4600 (which the PowerMacs offer), is still a more powerful display. Plus, a Radeon 9700 and the NV30 will likely ship for the Mac before entirely too long.

Oh, and about monitor spanning: I can only see this benefitting Apple. So what if a user now spends less on the purchase of a PowerMac? He'll still be buying an extra display for the ability to span across two monitors, and he's still likely to spend the money for Final Cut Pro.

I started folding with the G5 home computer for several reasons. First, I leave my computer on most of the time and really like the idea that for pennies I can have an application working on something useful for other people. Since I work in...<gasp>...IT, I also like the idea that processor time there is serving some higher cause.

I also lost a family member to cancer, so there is some small motivation there to see if some cumulative work will help in the understanding of these diseases -- though mortality is part of living....

Another reason? To contribute to the MacRumors Team (http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=3446) effort and earn props for the team.

By the way, the Sony is supposedly available in Japan now. I own a Sony and a Apple...and have no problem liking both.
I do realise that the VAIO is thicker than the TiBook, but still the point is that the drive has been shruck now to a size where it can fit into any notebook, it's just a matter of time (or technology) until they have it small enough to fit into the TiBook, and my bet is they allready can do this, it's just when they decide to release it....and in my book a 1Ghz Ti w/ SuperDrive would make an ideal launchpad.

Just in case anybody is interested...

I made a simple CoreImage test app to try and get to grips with CoreImage. It's not very advanced but it can do a number of effects and is fun to play with.

I need somebody to host it for the moment because I'm away from my webserver so if anybody can do that then it will be available for download.

Requires a CoreImage compatible graphics card that is Quartz2DExtreme capable. Works nice and smoothly on my 17" Powerbook (Most recent gen).

...and yet you don't put them out there for comparison. How odd, that someone comes in here and makes this kind of blanket statement, while also listing a PC as their main machine. It almost seems, I don't know, about as trollish as the claim that CherryOS' site went down because of "hackers" that couldn't stand to hear what they had to say.

If there are laptops that are "cheaper and technically better," then I'd love to see them.

Geez.. They're listed by date. PC bought first, PB bought last. Get it? I actually ended up getting a 12" Powerbook, not a PC laptop. Heck, I actually own *two* Macs. Obviously I must hate Macs.

As for the comparison, here's the most relevant example.

    Intel Celeron M 1.5 GHz
    14" XGA (1024x768)
    256MB RAM PC2700 (up to 2GB)
40GB HDD (5400rpm) (base is 30GB, increased to match iBook)
    802.11b+g Wireless
    2x2 USB 2.0, FW400, 1 x PCMCIA, IrDA, SP/DIF Out
    Combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW
    GeForce FX Go5200 (64MB)
    2,3 Kg

    11842 NOK, ~$1800

    PowerPC G4 1 GHz
    14.1" XGA
    256MB RAM PC2100
    40GB HDD (4200rpm)
    AirPort Extreme
    2x2 USB 2.0, FW400
    Combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW
    ATI Radeon 9200 (32MB)
    2,7 Kg

    13219 NOK, ~$2,000 ($1,378 in Apple U.S. Store)

The only issue I have with buying the Powerbook is that I'm still unsure if I made the right choice, and that I perhaps should've cashed out extra for the 15" Powerbook instead (and I'll even give you a nice comparison in that price class vs a PC too, if you insist).

And to keep it on-topic: If CherryOS = PearPC then it's too slow and buggy to be useful for anything serious.... 80% speed of native? Riiiight...

I think at that price sticking in WiFi would be nice. As it has already been said, the DS has WiFi. Infact every video games machine (handheld and console) launched after Nov 21 2004 has WiFi...

    GameBoy Micro
    20Gb PS3

But your point is taken...the high end Xbox 360 should have built in Wi-Fi
