If they had repaired permissions weekly, this wouldn't have happened.

Maybe they should drag com.apple.elevator.plist to the Desktop to see if that helps things.

Where is good elevator tech support when you really need it?

No that does not mean its doing the same thing over and over. There are many parts to 1 protein. As i recall those are worth a lot.
What is considered "a lot" ?

No joke here. I bought it as a birthday present for a friend of mine and liked it so much that I tried to find one for myself, but they were gone by then. There were at least two, if I'm not mistaken.

I think the system requirements were a naked fat lady (so you could bounce off her stomach) a set of lumberjack flannel, an exploding penguin and a dead parrot. :D

    Hey
My friend wants me to try out WoW for 10 days, but to create a Trial Account, I need a trial key (included with the purchase of a game), but he already gave his to another guy, so if anybody got a spare WoW trial key, I would be glad if you could PM one to me.:)

Glad to hear Jackson won't be directing the Halo movie. He did great with LOTR, but I hated King Kong. The movie would have been far too long with him behind the wheel.

Yeah it's a bit of a weird app to start, but after that it is very simple and powerful :)

To start the folding process you need to install, in the tools menu. Also you might need to download f@H.

It's a great client because, on my laptop it will stop folding when on battery. It will monitor and control other Mac's folding, and something that you might enjoy is that it will stop folding when a particular app runs, so say Photoshop :)

    Awesome - I will give that a try. :D

I think MacRumors has never had a very big "community" feel to it... it's always been very functional. Mac Rumors w/ discussions. ...

I came across this while verifying Mr. Anderson's previous identity. Yes, it makes me feel like a new pup given the vast age of others' memberships (although I'm now in something like the 33rd percentile in terms of seniority).

However, I'm posting because I think that, at least to me, the forums do provide a fair sense of community. Perhaps it was missing for a while, back in those years before I stumbled into the light, but I think we feel like a community now. Any of the elders care to comment?

O YES!!! There is a Mac one right?

At 9.10 o'clock.. well isn't it nice i have computer class :) I'll going to get a copy of that if it kills me!

Now Google.. release a Word Alternative and your golden(assuming it can beat pages, which i love but i know others are force to use Word)

Google just brought Writely, which implies that they are working on transforming existing code to make a web based wordprocessor. I saw the Writely GUI, and it is no Aqua.

If this spreadsheet can do basic functions e.g. concatenate, sum etc. I'm game. I think it is not a question of if but when an Office replacement comes along for free. Sun tried to do it, but I think they just had an axe to grind with MSFT. I guess you can't compete effectively on emotion alone. However, I think Google will do it. I love Google's business model: Invent a product that people want to use, give it away for free, then try to make money off of it. I think the internet in its current state will only take this model. Be warn iTunes, Ebay, Yahoo and MSFT!

Apple really should be setting a good example, and based on recent financial statements has the profit margin to do it.

That said, I'm not entirely sure about these figures; they're claiming a plant that employs 200,000 people working 15 hour days, and implies that's primarily iPods (I say this based on the "iPod city" phrase, though one assumes the plants make other stuff, too).

Now, with Apple selling around 8 million iPods a quarter (some of which are Shuffles, which they said are made at a different plant), that works out to 2.5 million iPods a month, maximum (assuming there are nearly zero shuffles sold, and almost all of the rest are made there), or 115K iPods per workday (assuming a 5-day week). Now, were all 200,000 people building iPods, that would work out to it taking almost two 15-hour person-days to assemble a single iPod.

I could be mistaken here, but based on the takeaparts I've seen, and the fact that these plants are just assembly of parts from elsewhere, I seriously doubt it takes someone 25 hours of work to put a Nano together and box it up, even if absolutely everything was done by hand and not using machinery. Not to mention at $50 a day that would put the labor cost at $85 not including housing.

Obviously it's not costing even a fraction of that to assemble an iPod (the parts ain't that cheap, and there's a rather fat margin on them), so either these numbers are drastically off somewhere, or only a tiny fraction of those workers are building iPods.

I'm not saying that it's not entirely likely Apple is hiring a lowest-common-denominator company to assemble iPods, and I'd argue that at the very least they should be outsourcing to somewhere that's a "good" place to work, at least by local standards, but I'm not jumping to conclusions about an article that at the very least is misrepresenting Apple as having a city of 200,000 underpaid workers living in dorms cranking out iPods for the world.

I'll wait to hear a little more before I make any decisions. Here's a Wired article that notes the contractor is generally considered pretty good by East Asian labor standards, and that the Mail article may be hyperbolic:

If Apple continues like that, producing fancy peripherals in palce of computers as it shuld be by the en of next year we are gonna see infomertials overflood by Apple products and with 1.4 GHz powermacs in the market.

Apple is doing a smoke bomb because of its incapacity of producing computers faster than PC's and trying to develop a OS superior and efficient than OS9.

BECAUSE JAGUAR IS NOT AS RELIABLE, FLEXIBLE, COMPATIBLE AND FRIENDLY THAN OS 9 !!!

I have no problem with people using this, as long as people don't use it for piracy. Easier methods exist for pirating music.

The record labels will have SOME problem with this, but--like CDs--you have to BUY the music first. That's not like people signing up for one month of Napster and stealing non-stop.

Apple will have a bigger problem with this--it was tough enough for them to convince the record industry to allow downloading at all, and they'll be extra sure to defend their system now that it's successful.

And it sounds easy for Apple to fix with a future iTunes update:

    1) First, force iTunes to identify itself more strictly when connecting to the store.

    2) Assuming that crackers keep finding ways to spoof the iTunes app anyway... send the songs to Akamai and to the iTunes app already encrypted. NOT with the account-specific DRM, just with standard 128-bit encryption, the SAME encryption for everyone. Only iTunes, not 3rd-party apps, would have the key to decrypt those files (and add the individual DRM).

    3) If the crackers manage to extract the universal key from the iTunes app, Apple need only change the key every so often to interfere. Either as part of iTunes updates, and/or by obtaining a new key online so there's one more process crackers would have to spoof.

Thinking out loud. Anyway, one way or another, I imagine this is short-lived.

The existing, easy, legal method for stripping DRM--burning to CD--is here to stay. And you lose no quality. When you re-import, you ALSO lose no quality, as long as you can spare the HD space and use Apple Lossless etc. Looking at the long-term, HD space is getting cheap.
